Another Day's Sky

I wish you wouldn't leave so soon
Your light perishes the gloom
The warmth that you provide
Makes my soul fit to glide

You are my precious little star
Touching the earth from afar
Now you disappear behind those clouds
And the cold bite of dusk is aroused

Fear not, for you will be back in the morning
Rising as the fields are thawing
Your gentle embers caressing me
Felt by every bird and every bee

It is dawn
I am waiting patiently on the lawn
The birds gather in their flocks
While girls play in their frocks

It is so wonderful for you to join us
My one and only furnace
But my heart is still burning with sorrow
Hurt from a retching quarrel

My crippling pain soon dispels
As you cast the most majestic of spells
Your rays drying the tears I cry
As you light up another day's sky

Dan's Kebab House

I've been standing by this fruit machine for some time
Dressed as sharp as a lime
As I patiently tap my fingers
The smell of onion lingers
Waiting inside a kebab shop
Spilling the heart you thought you'd rob
Stuck here on a Friday night
When I could have stayed at home to watch the fight
This wouldn't be the first time you've stood me up
Squashed like a plastic cup
Clinging on to every thread of hope
You always wondered how I'd cope
Calling me up at all hours
Well you drunk the wine and crushed the flowers
'Lets just stay as friends' you said
Oh, so that's why you slept in another man's bed?
A victim of time and circumstance
But never mind the facts
As foolish as it sounds
I forgive you for as long as the earth is round
Chest freezer
I even helped your dad out just to please ya
Now I'm left with a measly dime
But you are a mountain I'm willing to climb
I place my last coin into the machine
Strangled by a hopeless regime
One last gamble
My heart twisting through the mangle
Suddenly a text appears
I am caught unawares
'Waiting outside Dan's kebab house' it reads
I have fallen to my knees
I couldn't bolt outside quick enough
You always were a scruff
Standing there with your hoodie zipped up
That's my Rob!
I gain a gentle whiff of your aftershave
This is no goodbye-wave
We don't utter a single word
My heart is already cured

Recluse Of The Ocean

The sand is fine
A land so devine
Waters are cool
Hazy and blue
The sea shells flip
Ship lights are lit
Mysterious coves
Upon the sea she rose
Lighthouse beacon
The rocks shes seeking
A recluse of the ocean
A stranger in a prism
Welcomed by reefs
Reaching the shallows with ease
Fish scatter
The beach a platter
Swam in from distant fog
Arms rested on a log
The stars are bright
Guides of the night
The surf so restless
She is breathless
Spears await
A gasp, it's too late
Blood in the waters
She escapes the robbers
Her dignity gone
The waves roll
She returns to the depths
Clinging to the secret she kept
Alive but afraid
She is the mermaid

Canvas Of The Night

It's in the accession of love that we climb
Reaching the stars as we please
Glaring our love on the fronds
And dusting our shine on the trees

Laying on a sea of grass
We are destined for a mission
Gazing at the looniest of stars
Wandering across our vision

Wearing our souls like a crest
Walking a path this light has cast
Beaming a star into our breast
Our souls built to last

It's in the stars we see ourselves
We radiate a brilliant light
Painting in the invisible realm
On the black canvas of the night

The Spirit And The Ego

Dreams are waves
Coming and going as they please
Nightmares are graves
Bringing your soul to its knees

Happiness is sunshine
Lifting the canopy into orbit
Misery is a vine
Strangling your soul in torment

Laughter is a flower
Brighting up the garden
Anger is a black tower
Surrounding the duldrums

Faith is water
Seeping through the cracks
Doubt is a blotter
Bearing hot wax

Spirit is a tapestry
Uniting the whole world
Ego is the majesty
Wishing to be heard

Washing Line

On the washing line
Hung out to dry
These soaked fabrics
Left to the sun's magic
But who could imagine?
That the earth could be the lantern
That lights up our earth
And drys our clothes from birth

Oh, how we all dangle
Twisted and put through the mangle
Relying on the sun to shine
To take us to a land so fine
Waiting for so long
Something is wrong

Hung on a hook
A tattered coat
This ancient relic
Left on its own merit
But who could imagine?
A coat as grand as a mountain
Hung for such a time
But never from a washing line

Oh, how the wise man drapes
Endless joy and no complaints
The sun is inside him
This is where the souls residing
Home, where it belongs
Nothing is wrong

Dancing On The North York Moors

A daddy longlegs dancing
Oh, such a clumsy soul
Where will this gust of wind take me?
Across this foggy moor

Drifting off on small breezes
Past the church where they pray
Warm and cosy like sheep fleeces
The grass outside does sway

Sat on carpets of heather
While Yorkshire tea is served
Surrounded by horse and feather
The damp evening is lured

Pale moonlight arises
As the church doors are closed
Spirit in its grand disguises
I make my way in doors
